Blame It On The Boogie Radio - Episode 2: Make Minneapolis Funky Again

July 31, 2016 by Bobby Kahn

Only took me a month but here is episode 2! It was worth the wait. To coincide with the alleged launch of my campaign to Make Minneapolis Funk Again/hat purchase, I put together a playlist of entirely Minneapolis Funk. 16 songs, in mostly chronological order, with songs ranging from 1968 to 2014.

I pulled several songs from two top notch Twin Cities funk compilations: Secret Stash Record's "Twin Cities Funk & Soul"  and Numero Group's "Purple Snow: Forecasting The Minneapolis Sound". I would highly recommend you pick both of these up if you like what you hear on this show.

A majority of these songs are from Minneapolis funk's golden era, the late 70s to early 80s. But the show does end with some modern artists. Tickle Torture and Sonny Knight & The Lakers are keeping the funk alive as well as anyone in this city. After that it's a couple techno songs from locals who are heavy hitters in the global techno game, DVS1 and Dustin Zahn. I know not all of you will consider that funk but I do.

This is a reminder that we have something to be very proud of here! We have something worth celebrating, and so it should be celebrated. With your help, I believe we can Make Minneapolis Funky Again!
